The girls track team are champions once again. The girls defeated rival Hingham 71-65 at Whitman-Hanson on Tuesday. Mel Collins bested her previous school record with a time of 68.8 to start off the day, the girls did not stop there. Emily Regan lead sweeps in the mile and two mile, the lady Panthers had victories from Abby Baker in the 800, Nicole Galewski in the long jump, Kayla McCormack in the shot put and Tori gray in the Javelin. It was a total team win with Janet Dempsey placing in three events and several athletes running, jumping or throwing their personel best. It was the girls first championship in 10 years. Congratulations ladies and to the seniors you have made your mark in Panther Track and Field History.
800 Meter Record Broken - Boys' Outdoor Track
Clint Burns ran a 1:53.43 800 meter at the 50th Annual Andover Track Boosters' Invitational on Saturday, May 8,2010. The new W-H school record eclipsed last year's record run of 1:54.54 by Pat Egan. Egan currently runs for Monmouth University. The conditions were cold, raw and rain at the Andover facility. But, Burns was strong and looked comfortable as he took charge of the race in the final 300 meters. Burns, a senior, will run for U Mass Lowell next season. He has a bright future.
Galeski Jumps to a Record
WOW! Another freshmen has broken a school record. Nicole Galewski broke a 13 year old long jump record on Saturday at the elit Andover Invitational. With a leap of 16'11.75" Nicole jumped to a first place finish. This was our first winner at this meet in 10 years. Congratulations Nicole we are proud of you.
Collins Runs to a record
Melanie Collins ran to a school record in impressive fashion Saturday at the RT 228 Freshmen Sophomore invitational held at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham. Mel's time of 69.83 bettered the old mark by a second, that is a lot in an event like the 400 Hurdles. Only a freshmen my guess is that record will be broken several more times over the next few years. Congratulations Melanie and welcome to an elite club. The rest of the team had an unbelievable day as well placing 3rd as a team with 24 freshmen and only 3 sophomores, Leading the way were the Baker Sisters Rachel a second in the 2 mile and Abby a second in the mile both with career best times, Nicole Galewski placed 2nd in the long jump and 5th in the 100 and anchored the 4x100 team of Danny Spivack, Mel Collins and Karen Dempsey to a third place finish not to be outdone the 4x400 team of Abby and Rachel Baker, Gianna Ciaccatore and Lindsey Goode ran to a season best time of 4:22 and a 4th place finish. This is the Lady Panthers best showing in 10 years at this meet. Nice work Girls!

Information Wanted on The Men in Black
Whew ... time flies. I just have been buried with the phenomenal cross country season the Panthers just enjoyed. The girls were flat out scary. They improved with every race. And, the boys were great. There is much to report on: ACL All Stars, Patriot Ledger All Scholastics, Brockton Enterprise All Scholastics, Globe All Scholastics, Herald All Scholastics, League Championships, Brown Invitational or Catholic Memorial Championships, Easter MA Championships and the State Championship. I have also been buried with preparing the indoor track team. This team has the potential (not my favorite word) to be a great one. School records were set in the fall and should be set in the winter. Finally, (beyond family chores), I have been busy researching some GREAT track coaches for induction into the MSTCA Hall of Fame. I serve the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association in the capacity of researcher for the Hall of Fame. It is a humbling experience to discover these coaches who have had such great success through 20 plus years of dedication. At any rate, I promise, when the Christmas break arrives, to spend some time at the computer filing reports on all of the above. (Photos ... click on headline.)
